Light of Enlightenment

One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance”. Diwali also known as deepawali is  the festival of lights which is widely celebrated across various religions in India. It is considered a time to renovate houses and let the old things out the house, and fill the house with newness. There is a sense of happiness and joy everywhere with houses decorated with diyas ,lanterns and rangolis. On occasion of Diwali people gift each other variety of gifts from sweets to electronic gadgets and pray for each others prosperous and healthy life. There is light and happiness everywhere. But beyond all the celebration how many of us actually introspect and try to overcome the evils and implement good virtues in our life. We clean our houses and workplaces but not many of us clean our hearts and let dust of negativity, evil thoughts out of it. It is sometimes difficult to overcome evils, but just as a small ‘Diya’ makes it’s contribution in defeating the darkness likewise even a small effort can make many changes in our life and help us to be a better person. It’s not very difficult to overcome the evils. If lighting  numerous ‘diyas’ can help us light the whole house then numerous small efforts to be better person can help us lighting our life.

Every year we spent thousands of rupees on firecrackers and burning them gives us a lot of thrill and joy. But all the firecrackers just help in increasing the pollution which is eventually destroying our nature. Instead even if we give half the money to someone really needs it, that can help the person to bring light in his life. Who otherwise would have remained in darkness. In India there are many people who are deprived from the light of education and stay in the darkness of illiteracy, by providing education to a person we not only guide the person towards knowledge but his whole family towards a enlightened life. All the celebration, burning crackers, decorations give us momentary happiness. But helping someone, to be someone’s light of enlightenment gives us eternal sense of happiness and satisfaction which could never be experienced elsewhere. Giving others happiness will only multiply happiness in our life. This Diwali let us bring light in life of others by being always there for people who need us, in our life by overcoming the evils and encouraging the good in us , in our society by spreading knowledge over fatuousness. Let’s fill colours in life of people for whom life as became colourless. This Diwali let as be light of enlightenment in true sense.
